Tipogris Books and Brands is a design office.
Tipogris creates books and develops brands and identities for industry and culture clients.
Tipogris realizes ambitious artists’s books, annual reports, exhibition catalogues, programmes, festschrifts, project proposals and documentations, image publications and compendiums. With a keen eye for type. With a trained sense for language.
Tipogris implements branding and CI systems precisely and consistently, making sure that the underlying concepts are always comprehensible with ease, always actionable with efficiency. These concepts inform everything that makes a brand visible: ranging from logo, corporate type, and visual language to complex layout systems.
A design based on these principles will have a lasting impact at first sight—in any medium: website or signage system, magazine or outdoor campaign.
Tipogris collaborates with type designers and foundries in order to create bespoke typefaces and develop the right licenses with your own custom terms.
Tipogris Books and Brands is a project initiated by Johannes López Ayala. After training and working as a language teacher at Academia Europea in San Salvador and studying Industrial Design at State Academy of Fine Arts Stuttgart and University of Wuppertal, he worked in a multinational industry & high-tech corporation as an interactive marketer for four years.
In 2013, he started his own design business and realized projects with artists, cultural institutions and industrial clients. As a channel for his own artistic output, he co-founded the interdisciplinary workspace, Studio Bronx, together with four artists.
From 2018 through 2019, he was responsible for rebranding the Rhenish State Theatre, the largest travelling state theatre in North Rhine Westphalia.
In 2019, he merged his design practice, “Wort+Form”, and the Studio Bronx network into Tipogris Books and Brands to focus his work on his core competencies: book design and branding. In order to carry out demanding projects, he works together with a wide range of specialists: photographers, architects, artists, production managers, film makers, musicians, and—of course—designers of all trades.
Johannes López Ayala loves art history, Jazz, Europe, and—coming from a coffee-growing family himself—coffee.
Even groundbreaking concepts are nothing without someone who puts them into action. Tipogris has succesfully delivered branding & design projects in collaboration with some of the most brilliant clients:
